Ajax was the bond of Solovet. In Gregor the Overlander, he joins Gregor and the other questers partway through their mission to find and rescue Gregor's father. Months later, he had originally planned to search for the cure in The Curse of the Warmbloods, before Hamnet turned him and Solovet away. Later on in The Code of Claw, Ajax began training Ares, before he was ultimately ambushed and killed by the gnawers.

Appearance[]

Ajax was a giant bat with fur the color of dried blood. Much like Ares, Ajax was one of the larger fliers, being described as a "brute of a bat."

Personality[]

Ajax was not cared for among fliers or humans, due to his personality. He was very harsh, blunt, and had trouble giving others any amount of praise.

History[]

At some point before the events of Gregor the Overlander took place, he bonded with Solovet.

Biography []

Gregor the Overlander[]

Ajax makes his debut shortly before he and the other "questers" depart on the journey to find and rescue Gregor's father. Partway through the journey, however, Ajax is among the few who leave to take part in the fight for Regalia.

Gregor and the Curse of the Warmbloods[]

Months later, Ajax plans to join Gregor and the other questers in the search for the plauge's cure. As the search party reaches the Arch of Tantalus, however, they are met with Solovet's son, Hamnet. Still traumatized by the abuse he had endured at the hands of his mother, Hamnet refuses to allow Solovet and, by extension, Ajax and her soldiers, to continue on the journey. Faced with the threat of not being able to locate the cure, Solovet and Ajax ultimately return to Regalia.

Gregor and the Code of Claw[]

Months later, Ajax begins training Ares. He later dies alongside Solovet, Marcus, and Horatio when they are ambushed by gnawers while on their way to the spinner colony.

Skills and Abilities[]

  • Echolocation: Like the vast majority of the creatures in the Underland, he could locate objects by determining the time for an echo to return and the direction from which it returns.
  • Flight: As a flier, he had the ability to soar and flutter through the air over great distances.

Relationships[]

Solovet[]

Solovet was Ajax's bond and they were extremely close as a result.

Trivia[]

  1. Ajax was named after a Greek hero, who was known for his courage and strength.
